Aims of the course unit: | ||||
The aim of the course is to prepare students for real-life communication in English language. They learn to describe problems, give instructions, ask questions, i.e. the skills that arise in a wide range of technical occupations. On completion of the course, students are expected to have gained knowledge of English at the A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. | ||||
Learning outcomes and competences: | ||||
Students will learn general vocabulary and elementary grammar for everyday communication at the A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. | ||||
Prerequisites: | ||||
Course is intended for false beginners, for first-year students primarily. The course A2 follows the course A1 but its completion is not a condition for the enrollment in the course A2. | ||||

The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level but it also introduces students to English for specific purposes (ESP). | ||||

Language instruction as an extension of basic professional curriculum. | ||||
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes: | ||||
Course-unit credit is conditioned by active attendance and participation in the seminars and by meeting specific requirements of the teacher. The course is concluded by an exam in the form of a written test which is based on the content of both A1 and A2 courses. In addition, the teacher takes into consideration overall performance of students in the seminars. | ||||
Controlled participation in lessons: | ||||
Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars. | ||||

Language exercise | verb “like+ing”, e.g. I like swimming, watching TV etc. past simple – verb “to be” – positive, negative, question past simple – regular verbs past simple – irregular verbs past simple – negative, question “there is/are, there was/were” countable / uncountable nouns + “a/an, some/any” questions using “how much / how many”, quantifiers “a lot of, much, many” comparative / superlative adjectives adverbs of manner and modifiers “very, quite…” |
