Aircraft Structure and Systems I (FSI-CKS)

Academic year 2018/2019
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Karel Třetina, CSc.
Supervising institute: all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Students will gain basic knowledge about airframe construction and aircraft onboard systems, so they can understand their functions with respect to flight properties, reliability and security of flight operation.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Students will acquire basic knowledge and experience of aircraft construction and aircraft hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The knowledge is necessary for a successful pilot training completion.
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of material science, differentiation and integral calculus, basic knowledge of physics and mechanics, statics and dynamics, 1st law of thermodynamics, equation of continuity, hydraulic resistance.
Course contents:
Aircraft and its parts, fuselage, types of constructions, load applied, cabin windows. Wings, types of constructions, load applied to wing, devices of drag and lift increasing. Stabilising surfaces, vertical and horizontal stabilisers, load applied to surfaces, pulsation, materials used. Undercarriage, types, constructions, aircraft wheels, shock-absorbers, landing gear pulsation. Flight controls, requirements, loads applied to controls, devices of trimming and balancing, warning means. Aircraft hydraulic systems, requirements, parameters of pressure energy transmission. Hydraulic pressure systems with pressure and flow regulation, working, standby and emergency circuits. Hydraulic elements, function, construction, parameters and characteristics. Pneumatic systems, sources and distributions of pressure air. Control system of aircraft motion on the ground, brake systems. Hydraulic servo control systems, function of individual elements. Set up and modification of control forces, requirements, indicators, warning elements. Air conditioning systems, requirements, adjustment systems of the temperature and humidity.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
The course-unit credit is awarded based on 80% participation at lectures and correct elaboration of homework. The examination has both written and oral parts. The written one comprises solving 3 problems, the oral one consist of answering 2 questions randomly chosen by a student.
Controlled participation in lessons:
If presence at lectures is less then 80%, students have to prove elaborated tasks and completed parts from missed lectures. Missed lectures can be compensated in a very limited extend by consultations with the lecturer.
Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 2 hrs. optionally
