Academic year 2018/2019
Supervisor: prof. Ing. Milan Horáček, CSc.
Supervising institute: ÚST all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is for students to obtain a general overview of different technologies used for casting manufacture.
Learning outcomes and competences:
The course provides students with basic knowledge of possibilities of using castings in different practical applications from their design and material point of view.
Prerequisites:
Basic principles of casting manufacture- knowledge obtained in 1st and 3rd year of the bachelorś study programme. Material science knowledge + appropriate parts of physics (liquid flow, thermomechanics, etc.)
Course contents:
Basic methods applied to the production of castings, manufacturing sand moulds and cores, moulding processes, binder systems in sand mixtures, basic principles of foundry alloys melting, sand and permanent mould casting, gravity and higher pressure
pouring, gating systems, basic principles of foundry alloys solidification and cooling, consequences of volume changes of foundry alloys and their removal by risering , fettling operations and finishing process, final casting quality inspection.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Attendance in lectures is recommended, attendance in exercises is obligatory.
Credit for exercises: semestr project - obligatory
Examination : written and oral exam.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance at lessons is obligatory. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the lecturer.
