Academic year 2018/2019 |
Supervisor: | doc. Ing. Ladislav Bébar, CSc.
Supervising institute: | ÚPI
Teaching language: | Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Students will get acquainted with basic overview of possibilities of solid municipal and industrial wastes treatment along with advantages and disadvantages of individual processes concerning environmental impact. They will also get acquainted with processes in landfills and risk factors of solid waste landfilling and recycling methods of selected components.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Acquaintance with the current conditions of Czech and European waste management. Understanding of current legislation and the development of waste management. Acquaintance with processes for different waste groups utilization
Prerequisites: | ||||
Basic knowledge of formation and disposal of wastes. Basic knowledge related to material and energy balancing of processes.
Course contents: | ||||
The course is focused on particular methods of municipal and industrial waste disposal and energy or material recovery. In the introductory part the student is acquainted with current legislation of waste management, especially with waste catalogue, waste hierarchy and the Waste directive. In the next section, students learn the up-to-date methods for waste removal and recovery. A large part of the course is devoted to recent developments in the Czech waste management and to experience from countries with advanced waste management. |
||||
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
To gain a classified credit the students have to write a semester work (required classification at least "E"). The students have to prove they obtained relevant knowledge at the end of the semester by passing a written test. Semestral work contributes to overall evaluation with share of 50%. The test contributes to overall evaluation with share of 50%.
Controlled participation in lessons:
The attendance at lectures is recommended. Participation in the seminars is compulsory and is regularly checked. Notes from missed classes have to be completed and handed in for a teacher’s check-up.
