English 3 for Combined Type of Study (FSI-A3K)

Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to equip students for real-life tasks that arise in a wide range of technical occupations. It is intended to consolidate the knowledge obtained at secondary school and practice all four language skills.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at intermediate level.
Prerequisites:
Course is intended for students within the combined study programmes who are familiar with the language at the pre-intermediate level / A2 (CEFR) as minimum. They are expected to have the knowledge and skills corresponding secondary school courses.
Course contents:
The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level. Also deals with ESP. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is intended for the combined form of study, individual work of students is directed by lectures and exercises taught en bloc.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having worked out assigned tasks and passed a credit test. Students' work in the e-learning support of the course is also reflected in the overall course assessment. Altogether it is required to collect at least 36 points out of 60 (i.e. 60%). In case the benchmark of 60% is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance at seminars is systematically checked by the teacher and is recommended to get the credit.

    Guided consultation in combined form of studies 1. Introduction. U1: Talking about yourself. Learning Languages. Question forms. Review of verb tenses. Talking about important dates in your life.
2. U2: Talking about facts. Narrative tenses. Present perfect and past simple. Talk about life stories. Say/tell.
3. U3: Future - plans and predictions. Future time markers, idioms. Discuss plans and arrangements. Dealing with misunderstandings.
4. U4: Jobs. Must/have to/should (obligation), used to, would.
5. U4: Personal qualities, adjectives, business. Participate in a meeting.
6. Revision.
7. Credit test.
