Aims of the course unit: | ||||
The aim of the course is to equip students for real-life tasks that arise in a wide range of technical occupations. It is intended to consolidate the knowledge obtained at secondary school and practice all four language skills. | ||||
Learning outcomes and competences: | ||||
Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at the intermediate level. | ||||
Prerequisites: | ||||
The course is intended for students within the combined study programmes who are familiar with the language at the pre-intermediate level / A2 (CEFR) as a minimum. They are expected to have the knowledge and skills corresponding to secondary school courses. | ||||

Course contents: | ||||
The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level. Also dealt with is ESP. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace. | ||||
Teaching methods and criteria: | ||||
The course is intended for the combined form of study, individual work of students is directed by exercises taught en bloc. | ||||
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes: | ||||
To pass this course it is necessary, apart from working out the assigned tasks and individual home preparation, to pass the credit test. Students' work in the e-learning support of the course is also reflected in the overall course assessment. Altogether it is required to collect at least 30 points out of 50 (i.e. 60%). In case the benchmark of 60% is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test. | ||||
Controlled participation in lessons: | ||||
Attendance at seminars is voluntary. However, students are strongly advised to attend the classes regularly to get the credit. | ||||

Talking about important dates in your life. 2. U2: Talking about facts. Narrative tenses. Present perfect and past simple. Talk about life stories. Say/tell. 3. U3: Future - plans and predictions. Future time markers, idioms. Discuss plans and arrangements. Dealing with misunderstandings. 4. U4: Jobs. Must/have to/should (obligation), used to, would. 5. U4: Personal qualities, adjectives, business. Participate in a meeting. 6. Revision. 7. Credit test. |
