Machine Design and Machine Elements (FSI-CKP)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: prof. Ing. Martin Hartl, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: ÚK all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Graduates will be able to analyse and address basic problems related to the design and control of machine parts, drives and mechanisms.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Design of machine parts and mechanisms, computational verification of designed machine parts, drives and mechanisms and evaluation of their reliability for the desired technical life.
Prerequisites:
It is assumed the students knowledge of design fundamentals, material science and solid mechanics from their previous study at FME BUT.

Course contents:
Design of machine parts, drives, and mechanisms with the aim to ensure a reliable function and good operating parameters. Calculations for functionality verification in terms of limit states.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
The classification is based on two written tests at predetermined dates, usually in the middle and end of the semester. The control test consists of five theoretical questions (four points each) and three calculation examples (ten points each). The condition for obtaining the credit is to obtain at least 50 points from both tests. The maximum total score is 100. The resulting score corresponds to the ECTS classification. The student is allowed to write a correction test in the date specified by the teacher, usually in the exam period.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Participation in lectures is recommended, attendance at seminars is compulsory - two absences are allowed. The lectures are based on the textbook Mechanical Engineering Design. This book is an essential source of information for the final test. The scaled preview of the lecture presentations will be available in on-line Moodle system.
Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 2 hrs. optionally
    Computer-assisted exercise  13 × 2 hrs. compulsory
Course curriculum:
Lecture - Introduction to the mechanical engineering design.
