Technology of Welding (FSI-ETV)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: Ing. Marian Sigmund, Ph.D., IWE
Supervising institute: ÚST all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
The main objective of the course is to provide students with the theoretical foundations of welding technologies. Students will acquire knowledge necessary for a creative and complex solution of industrial applications.
Learning outcomes and competences:
The students will be made familiar with all types of modern welding technologies. They will be able to apply these technologies to the machine construction manufacturing and steel constructions. They will be able to use an independent creative attitude to the elaboration of welding procedure.
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of science of material, body mechanics and physics.

Course contents:
The course deals with the following topics: Theoretical basis of welding - producing a weld joint. Description and theory of methods of fusion welding - flame welding, electric arc welding, plasma, electron beam and laser welding. Description and theory of methods of pressure welding - resistance welding, friction welding, diffusion welding, ultrasonic welding, cold pressure welding, explosive welding. Filler materials and welding devices. Weldability of materials. Producing a soldered and stickong joint. Thermal cutting. Basic knowlage destructive (DT) and non-destructive (NDT) welds testing.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
The examination has a written and an oral part, and the final classification will be in accordance with the Rules for Studies and Examinations. Course-unit credit requirements: participation in the exercises, delivery of assigned papers.
It is classificated to the ECTS grading scale
Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance in lectures is recommended. Attendance at seminars is compulsory. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the teacher who can set a special programme to be worked out.
Type of course unit:
