Industrial Design I (FSI-YA1)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: doc. akad. soch. Ladislav Křenek, ArtD.
Supervising institute: ÚK all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic attributes of industrial design at solving simple design products and encourage the emergence needed habits, procedures and basic skills. The aim is to respect and emphasize technical, operational and technological aspects of design.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Acquiring basic skills for an elementary product design taking into account the ergonomic context, the functional aspects and the definition of the selected target group of customers.
Prerequisites:
Students are assumed to have mastered the fundamentals of drawing and moulding necessary for project presentation. It is also necessary understanding of the basic spatial creation, art composition and realization of three-dimensional models.
Completion of the subject: Mass Study (YZ1).
Course contents:
The course is concerned with basic methods and habits that are necessary for the work on a design project. During the semester students are assigned tasks to design products that have a simple function. Suitable topics as design of hand tools such as hand saw for wood or metal, electric drill or a jig saw. The design project itself is documented by drawing sketches, plan documentation, perspective views, and a three-dimensional model of final solution. It is expected that students will use digital technologies for visualization and animation at the working out of the current project.
Teaching methods and criteria:
Creative work in ateliers.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Graded course-unit credit requirements: attendance at lessons, handing over assigned projects by the deadline in a sufficient quality. Presentation of an elaborated project. Design and the level of presentation of each project are evaluated separately.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on projects and exclusive tasks. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Compulsory attendance at seminars. Education runs according to the week schedule. The way of compensation of missed seminars is specified by the tutor.
