Research and Development Project (FSI-ZKR)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: prof. Ing. Ivan Křupka, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: ÚK all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Graduates will adopt the process of research and development projects solution and will be able to identify complex problems during prototype design or research and development projects.
Learning outcomes and competences:
- Ability to work in a team to solve advanced research and development projects.
- Ability to identify key problems and propose their solution.
- Practical experiences in experiment planning and prototype development.
- Ability to present obtained results in the form of a technical paper.
Prerequisites:
- knowledge of machine design, solid mechanics and material science, finite element methods, 3D parametric modelling.
Course contents:
The course is focused on team realization of advanced problems during prototype design or research and development project. Emphasis is placed on more advanced way of project based learning in which students are involved in problems identification and finding possible solutions. The presentation of obtained results in the form of technical paper is developed.
Teaching methods and criteria:
Computer-assisted exercise, Laboratory exercise
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Conditions for obtaining credit:
- active participation in exercises,
- submission of a complete project in digital form (CAD data, technical report, drawing documentation, poster A1 in pptx and PDF format for printing, presentation in pptx) and in printed form
(technical report, drawing documentation).
- submission of a technical paper in digital (docx) and printed version.
Examination conditions:
- successful defence of the project before the committee (it takes place in a team and is a prerequisite for passing the second part of the exam),
- Successful completion of an individual discussion in front of the committee (the key to success is sharing knowledge about the project solution among all team members), the overall grade is based on
the assessment in both parts of the exam. In total, up to 100 points can be earned, the resulting classification is determined by the ECTS scale.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Exercises and laboratories: attendance is compulsory and controlled by the teacher, maximum two absences are allowed. In the case of long-term absence, compensation of missed lessons is on the competence of the course guarantor.
Type of course unit:
    Laboratory exercise  13 × 6 hrs. compulsory
    Computer-assisted exercise  13 × 4 hrs. compulsory
Course curriculum:
Laboratory exercise Depending on the requirements and objectives of a projects, the student usually carries out development or research work in one of the following laboratories:
- Tribology.
- Reverse engineering and additive technologies.
- Technical diagnostics.
Computer-assisted exercise - Presentation of project assignments, division of competencies, project map, Gantt chart.
- Problems identification and analysis / - Proposal of prototype variants of solutions.
- First review meeting with presentation of results.
- Experiments / prototype testing planning
- Data acquisition and evaluation of obtained results
- Second review meeting with presentation of results.
- Analysis of obtained results and their publication.
