Operation of Power Plant Equipment (FSI-LPZ)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Marek Baláš, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Introduction to basic operating states of power generating plants, start-up and shutdown, application of reliability theory and concepts of reliability information system and maintenance system. Students will be acquainted with the basics of the theory of power chemistry, water treatment equipment in power engineering and operational control of chemical regimes.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Acquired general knowledge forms the basic discipline necessary for the management and maintenance of power equipment in conventional, nuclear and industrial power engineering.
Prerequisites:
Energy Sources and Conversion, Boilers, Steam Turbines,
Course contents:
One of the final subjects of the branch, focused on the principles of operation of power equipment and detection and elimination of operational failures of individual components of power units. In this course, students will be introduced to the start-up of steam boilers and steam turbines, power supply and regeneration and chemical water treatment. Another big topic is reliability of operation, overview of the most common failures, methods of their detection and elimination. The course requires knowledge of the design, project and construction of individual components of energy cycles. An integral part is the introduction to the basic legislation and economic principles of operation.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught in the form of lectures that have the character of explanation of basic principles and theory of the given discipline. The exercise is focused on practical mastery of the subject matter covered in the lectures. Within the course, students undergo several excursions to power plants and production plants.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Credit: participation in seminars and excursions held within the course and passing the subsequent test.
Exam: successful completion of a point test from the basics of operation.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Controlled participation in lessons: Exercises are compulsory. The student will be compensated for absence by agreement with the tutor. Lectures are optional.
