Aims of the course unit:
Improvement of student competencies and knowledge of work with different sources of information, exploiting computer aid. Training in planning, organization and control, selection of variants, correct decision-making and user processing of technical-economic or organizational backgrounds and information. Use of analytical and rating methods of problem solving, which are proposed for a new system or process with the target characteristics. Application of acquired knowledge and abilities in practice. A technical report is elaborated under professional guidance of the tutor and leader of the diploma thesis. The introductory, alternatively partial problems, which will be dealt with in detail in the diploma thesis, can be solved within this report. The report is professionally reviewed by a designated reviewer and must be defended by the student before the study group. Individual elaboration of the technical-economic or organizational final project report publication, which meets the requirements and principles for technical documentation.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Improvement of individual creative work, analytical opinion and rating abilities of the student, everything with computer aid. Ability of planning, organization and control, selection of variants, correct decision-making and processing of technical-economical or organizational backgrounds and information. Team work in a computer lab.
Prerequisites:
Students are expected to have the knowledge acquired in the course of previous study, namely in fields of theory and technology of machining, material science, metrology, mathematics, physics. English language is also required.
Course contents:

The course is intended to improve students individual creative work, analytical thinking and rating skills, with exploitation of computer aid. It also aims to develop their skills in planning, organization and control, selection of variants, correct decision-making and processing of technical-economic or organizational backgrounds and information. Part of the course is a team work in a computer lab.
Project specifications from industrial companies are prefererred, as well those from apllied research.

Teaching methods and criteria:
Teaching methods are based on modern teaching methods that richly use the modern computer technology and database of dissertations and all literary sources for writing texts and theses. These methods aim to improve individual creative work, analytical thinking and rating skills of students. Furthermore, it support their ability for production planning, including design of experiments, design organization and management, selection of optimal variants, correct decision making, preparation of technical-economic data and other information. Preferably, it is recommended to deal with project coming from industrial practice.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Classification is performed by course-unit credit, which confirms that the student has fulfilled all requirements for its awarding.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Participation in the courses is obligatory and can be specified by the supervisor of the diploma thesis.
Attendance at seminars can be substituted by the agreement with the teacher by consultations on the solved topic at a professional workplace outside the faculty, or by visiting technical library.

Course curriculum:

Use of analytical and rating methods of solving of the problem, which are going to the proposal of a new system or process with the target characteristics. Implementation of acquired knowledge and abilities in the real background of technical input. Technical report is performed under professional guidance of the tutor and leader of diploma work. The introductory, alternatively partial problems, which will be finished at the diploma work, can be solved at the frame of this report. The report is professionally reviewed by designated reviewer and must be defended by the student ahead of study group.
Individual performing of technical-economical or organizational final project in given issue, which meets the requirements and principles for technical documentation.
