Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the subject is to get students acquainted with the theory and rules or perception and using of colours, its historic and technological context and most importantly, its aesthetic effects. Practical workshops focus on composition of colour study.
Learning outcomes and competences:
This subject gives students the knowledge of basic principles and connection in colour perception and allows application of the gained knowledge in their own designs.
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of optics and basic practical experience in work with colour.
Course contents:
The subject gets students acquainted with the basics in colour and light theory that are used in industrial design. It is a basic understanding of 2D and 2D colouring, colour combination and composition, colour illusions, importance of light and illumination in design practice.
Teaching methods and criteria:

The subject is taught in the form of exercises, which are practically focused on the implementation of compositional and concrete tasks with individual consultations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Graded course-unit credit requirements: Attendance at exercises, meeting assigned projects deadlines.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on tasks. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale. If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is F "failed" .
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.
Controlled participation in lessons:

Compulsory attendance at seminars. Education runs according to the week schedule. The way of compensation of missed seminars is specified by the tutor.

Temperature contrast, color perspective
2nd task, color composition on the topic of simultaneous contrast
Meaning of complementary colors
3rd task, color solution of the design proposal from the subject YDE
Color variants, color compatibility with the design concept, materials used, production technologies, marketing, user and safety requirements
Color logic of a single product and a complete product line
Color trends in 20th and 21st century design
Surface treatment of physical models and sketches
