Advanced Foundry Technology (FSI-ESL-K)

Academic year 2023/2024
Supervisor: prof. Ing. Milan Horáček, CSc.
Supervising institute: ÚST all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:

The aim of the course is for students to obtain a general overview of different technologies used for casting manufacture (type of mould and core, pouring technique).

Learning outcomes and competences:

The course provides students with basic knowledge of possibilities of using castings in different practical applications from their design and material point of view, taking into account also quality and economy of the final product.

Prerequisites:

Basic principles of casting manufacture- knowledge obtained in 1st and 3rd year of the bachelorś study programme. Material science knowledge + appropriate parts of physics (liquid flow, thermomechanics, etc.)

Course contents:

Basic overview about casting technologies, i.e. mould and core making, possibilities of metal pouring and finishing operations. The course gives the detail knowledge related to all individual phases of casting manufacture takin into account the most modern and dynamic trends in this area. This will give to the students a possibility of comparison this technology with the other ones (forming, welding, machining, etc)

Teaching methods and criteria:

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:

Attendance in lectures is recommended, attendance in exercises is obligatory.
Credit for exercises: semestr project - obligatory
Examination : written and oral exam.

Controlled participation in lessons:

Attendance at lessons is obligatory. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the lecturer.

Type of course unit:
Guided consultation in combined form of studies  1 × 13 hrs. compulsory
