Introduction to Programmable Logic Controlles (FSI-VAM-K)

Academic year 2023/2024
Supervisor: Ing. et Ing. Stanislav Lang, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: ÚAI all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Students will acquire basic knowledge and implementation skill for using simple programmable logic controllers.
Learning outcomes and competences:

By completing the course, students will gain basic knowledge with the work and implementation of simple programmable logic controllers.

Prerequisites:
Students are expected to have knowledge of automatic control and programming.
Course contents:
The course introduces the student to area of basics of programmable logic controllers (PLC), which are today an integral part of industry and non-industry automation. After the theoretical introduction the course is based on practical laboratory exercises which are realized in the institute’s laboratory.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:

Credit conditions: active participation in laboratory exercises. Design of configuration and program creation for thematic tasks. Basic knowledge test.

Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance at lectures is recommended, attendance at seminars is required. It is at the teacher's discretion to decide how to make up for missed seminars.
Type of course unit:
Guided consultation in combined form of studies  1 × 4 hrs. compulsory
    Guided consultation  1 × 35 hrs. optionally
    Laboratory exercise  1 × 13 hrs. compulsory

    Laboratory exercise

Exercises are conducted in laboratories in blocks with following structure:
Solving basic combinational and sequential logic control tasks (lighting control, level control, temperature control, etc.) on PLC Siemens LOGO!
Solving more complex sequential logical control tasks (control of a model of an automatic washing machine, intersection, intelligent lighting, etc.) on PLC Siemens LOGO!
Basics of working with higher class programmable logical controlers and programming in the ST language.
Demonstration of the use of PLC in controlling a more complex system (servomechanism control, CNC milling machine control, robot control).
