Selected chapters from machine design - machine elements (FSI-0KS)

Academic year 2023/2024
Supervisor: Ing. Petr Šperka, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: ÚK all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:

Graduates will be able to analyse and design basic machine elements such as shafts, mechanical and welded joints, energy accumulators and bearings.

Learning outcomes and competences:
  • Understanding the mechanisms and causes of failure of machine parts.
  • Knowledge of the principle, calculation and use of basic machine parts.
  • Ability to apply the acquired knowledge in the design of new machines and equipment.
Prerequisites:

Knowledge:

  • materials science (choice of materials),
  • statics (load analysis),
  • elasticity and strength (stress and strain analysis).
Course contents:

The course extends and deepens skills especially in solving computational problems in the field of basic machine components and joints, such as springs, bearings, axles and shafts and bolted and welded connections. The course is a complement to the lecture, practice and home preparation of the course Machine design - machine components (5KS).

Teaching methods and criteria:

Lecture.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:

The course is classified with course-unit credit. The condition for obtaining it is more than 60% attendance at lectures.

Controlled participation in lessons:

Lectures: attendance at lectures is mandatory and controlled by the lecturer. In case of long-term absence, the replacement of missed classes is the responsibility of the course supervisor.

Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 2 hrs. optionally
Course curriculum:
    Lecture

  • Load analysis, stress and strain analysis.
  • Failures resulting from static loading.
  • Fatigue failure resulting from variable loading.
  • Stress analysis of shafts.
  • Deformation and vibration analysis of the shafts. Connections of the shaft and the hub.
  • Contact stresses and fatigue contact strength.
  • Analysis of preloaded bolt connections under static and fatigue tensile load.
  • Bolted and riveted joints loaded perpendicularly to the axis.
  • Welded joints.
