| Aims of the course unit: | ||||
The aim of the exam is to demonstrate that the student is able to communicate in English independently at B1 level as a minimum.
A student who successfully passes the GEN3 exam understands the main ideas of comprehensible input on topics related to everyday situations, while studying or preparing for a future career. A successful exam candidate can engage in conversation, describe facts, events and goals, and can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. The scope corresponds to the content of the courses GEN1 and GEN2 (see courses documentation). |

The exam assesses candidates' ability to use language independently, focusing on successful communication in contexts related to study, personal interests, and future careers. The written part tests knowledge of grammar within the scope of the GEN1 and GEN2 courses. Candidates are therefore required to have active knowledge of at least B1 level. The speaking part aims to test candidates' ability to actively use the language, participate in conversations, respond spontaneously to questions without preparation and explain and express thoughts and opinions. |

The exam has a written and an oral part and tests the knowledge of general English. The written part tests the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, while the oral part tests the ability to engage in conversation spontaneously without prior preparation. It also assesses fluency of speech, pronunciation and the ability to use grammar and vocabulary covered in the compulsory literature. The student is required to score at least 50% in both parts of the exam.
