Aims of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the methods applied when elaborating projects of a technical character. They will learn about literature search, studies, retrieving reference information related to the given topic.
Students will acquire excellent skills in using available sources of retrieving valuable information and technical materials apart from professional literature. They will practice a team work in a computer and manufacturing laboratory. Active pariticpation in production of the selected part.

Prerequisites:

Students are expected to have the knowledge acquired in the course of previous study, namely in fields of theory and technology of machining, material science, metrology, mathematics, physics. English language is necessary.

Course contents:

The course familiarises students with retrieving and processing of information, writing abstracts and searching literature, as well as with presentation of collected data. Also dealt with is the theory of analysis, economic analysis and the use of case studies when analysing the given problems. The course also addresses the problem of computer-aided data acquisition in virtual environment (Internet),esp the available databases. Individual work with students, practical technology of part production - design, manufacturing routine, production, practical experience, skill, measurement, team work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:

Graded course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars and worked out the final project including its presentation. Students are assessed according to the design and production of the selected part. Compulsory attendance at exercises, esp. in labs. It can be substituted on an agreement with the teacher with consultations on the solved topics at a professional workplace outside the faculty, or by visiting a technical library, grandfair, exhibition, etc.
