Aims of the course unit:
The graduate is acquainted with the Czech legal system in the field of weapons and ammunition intended for commercial security industry and for self-defence. He/she also learns the basics about current production of the main types of both firearms and cold-arms suitable for defence.
Learning outcomes and competences:
The subject of Weapons and Ammunition in Defence enables the graduates to acquire basic knowledge of different types of weapons and ammunition intended for professional defence and self-defence. Students will acquire basic practical skills necessary for safe handling of weapons and ammunition.
Prerequisites:
General mechanical engineering knowledge.
Course contents:
The graduate will gain general knowledge of the defence theory from the viewpoint of legal system as well as of other aspects. Moreover, the graduate will get acquainted with basic types of weapons and ammunition intended for both professional defence and self-defence.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work. According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Credit is awarded based on final test (50%) and semester project (50%). It is graded on the ECTS grading scale.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance at lectures is voluntary, however recommended. Tutorials are obligatory and credit is awarded based on final test and semester project. In the case of excused absence from tutorial, the student is given the opportunity to write a paper instead.

5. Firearms Licence, permit to buy, own and carry a firearm and ammunition in the Czech Republic
6. Rules for weapons and ammunition purchase, transport, use and safe storage
7. Preparation for examination, written exam and shooting test
8. General classification of weapons, basic terminology
9. Firearms classification and terminology
10. Categories of weapons under the current Firearms Act of the Czech Republic
11. Air and mechanical guns, non-shooting weapons
12. Insidious and improvised weapons, defensive and protective equipment
13. Weapons and ammunition testing
    Exercise 1. Opening tutorial - safety training for handling weapons and ammunition; assignment of semestral projects
