Ventilation and Air Conditioning I (FSI-IVK)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Bc. Jan Fišer, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to provide students with the theoretical basis in the field of ventilation and air-conditioning and to give an overview of ventilation and air-conditioning equipment constructions, and their optimal design. Students will learn to apply the acquired knowledge in a creative way to practical problems.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Students will gain the knowledge of parameters of optimal indoor environment and construction, design and operation of ventilation and air-conditioning systems and their components. They will learn to solve problems related to aerodynamics, economy, and thermal comfort and to dimension ventilation and air-conditioning equipments including their components and accessories.
Prerequisites:
Fundamental knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, hydromechanics, ventilation and air-conditioning.
Course contents:
The course is concerned with the following topics: The construction and the design of components and systems to ensure thermal comfort and cleanness of surrounding air in residential and industrial buildings, namely ventilating and air-conditioning equipment and the respective components. Air heaters and coolers, heat recovery units, air humidifiers, air cleaning devices, air duct systems and their components, execution, dimensioning, economic calculationa and operation. Refrigeration equipment for air-conditioning, condensers and cooling towers. Ventilating and air-conditioning systems - application and functions.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
One-day exam consists of both written and oral parts. Four questions (three theoretical and a practical one) are given. A personal calculator is required to solve the practical question; moreover, the examinee may bring and use their own literature. The overall exam evaluation equally accounts for both the theoretical and practical part.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Seminar attendance is mandatory. The neccessary conditions to acquire the credits are: full attendance at the seminars, and comply/fulfill with other study duties, such as homework, imposed on a student and checked out by the teacher during the term.
Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 5 hrs. optionally
    Computer-assisted exercise  13 × 2 hrs. compulsory
