Selected Chapters from Fundamentals of Design (FSI-0ZK)

Academic year 2021/2022
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Pavel Mazal, CSc.
Supervising institute: ÚK all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
Selected chapters from the basics of design make it easier for students to transition from high school without a technical focus. Lectures are designed to complement the basic lectures and exercises of the subject Fundamentals of Design and are focused not only on a more detailed explanation of the subject matter, but are also used for preparation for control tests and exam from the subject Fundamentals of Design.
Learning outcomes and competences:
The subject provides students with knowledge of technical drawing, dimensioning, accuracy of size and geometric accuracy, surface finishing, material selection, semi-finished materials, and standardized functional and technological elements. Students learn to apply such knowledge taking into account function and interchangeability of parts manufactured from worked semi-finished materials on the drawing. Possibility of graphic editors utilization.
Prerequisites:
Students are expected to have only basic knowledge acquired at secondary school.
Course contents:
The course deepens information about the basics of creating of design documentation in terms of drawing, dimensioning and dimensional accuracy. The principles for determining the relationship between surface quality, geometric accuracy, function and interchangeability are extended. Following the requirements of students, attention is focused on the choice of quality of materials, suitable semi-finished products and basic standardized functional and technological elements. The principle of selected manufacturing technologies and their connection with the choice of dimensioning system is explained.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through interactive lectures, explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Students may partially influence the content of lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Course-unit credit requirements: attendance at lectures.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance at lectures is checked.
Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 2 hrs. optionally
Course curriculum:
Lecture • Orthographic projection. Rectangular projection, method 1, 3.
• Sectional views. Dimensioning (completeness, explicitness, clarity).
• Dimensioning special shapes (arc, bevel, cone ...).
• Length dimension tolerance.
• Surface texture. Basic terms.
• Geometric tolerance of shape, orientation, position and run out. Bases.
• Geometric tolerances. General tolerances.
• Shape elements - functions and drawings..
• Screw threads. Basic terms, metric screw thread tolerance system.
• Functional and technological dimensioning (suitability of dimensioning).
• Holes position dimensioning. Functional and non-functional holes – different ways of dimensioning.
• Selection and marking of materials.
• Selected parts of machines. Preparation for the exam in the course “Fundamentals of Design”.
