Academic year 2021/2022 |
Supervisor: | prof. Ing. Martin Trunec, Dr.
Supervising institute: | ÚMVI
Teaching language: | Czech or English
Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to aquire the basic overview of advanced ceramic technologies including the latest trends in manufacturing of bulk polycrystalline ceramics. Students will learn of principles of particular methods, their advantages and limits.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Participants of the course will be able to analyse processing needs of a particular ceramic part and select the appropriate processing method for the required application.
Prerequisites: | ||||
Students have to prove the knowledge of structure and properties of ceramic materials. Knowledge of chemistry is assumed on the secondary school level enhanced by basic knowledge of chemistry (surface and interparticle forces).
Course contents: | ||||
This course deals with the technological basics of advanced bulk polycrystalline ceramics. The emphasis is put on principles of the technologies and on advantages and limits of particular methods resulting from these principles. Modern processing methods such as additive manufacturing methods and CNC milling of ceramic blanks are also included in the technology overview .
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through tutorials with students. For each tutorial there is assigned a topic for self-study including recommended literature. During every tutorial the information aquired by students are corrected and completed.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Examination will be carried out in the way of discussion with the student. During the discussion students will prove the knowledge of principles of advanced ceramic processing methods. Each student will get a selected product of polycrystalline ceramic product with a brief material and purpose descriptions. In the following discussion students have to be able to choose an appropriate fabrication method. This method has to be described and justified.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Compensation for missed lessons will be solved case by case.
