Gearing Devices of Vehicles (FSI-QRU)

Academic year 2023/2024
Supervisor: Ing. Aleš Prokop, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: ÚADI all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the problem of transmission of torque from powertrain unit to vehicle driving wheels. The aim is to obtain a comprehensive idea of the individual possibilities of conceptual-design solutions of partial components of the drivetrain.

Learning outcomes and competences:

By completion of this course, the student will acquire knowledge that is a prerequisite for independent design work in the field of vehicle transmissions, the ability to evaluate and optimize design designs from the point of view of their practical implementation.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge corresponding to subjects of theoretical foundations of bachelor study at FME BUT, especially statics, kinematics, dynamics, elasticity and strength.

Links to other subjects:
compulsory co-requisite: Driving Mechanisms [QHL]
compulsory co-requisite: Tractors [QT]

Course contents:
The course acquaints students with basic gear mechanisms of motor vehicles, their purpose, principle of function, construction and current state of development. The theoretical, constructional and operational aspects are taken into the account. During the lessons, presentation materials of functional samples provided by industrial partners and experimental technology in laboratories are used.
Teaching methods and criteria:

The course is taught in the form of lectures, which have the character of explaining the basic principles and theory of the given discipline. The exercise is focused on the practical mastery of the material discussed in the lectures, supplemented by calculation tasks. The teaching is complemented by a laboratory exercise with practical examples of functional units.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:

The course-unit credit is awarded on following conditions:

- active attendance in the seminars,

- passed a credit test.

The exam verifies the knowledge gained in lectures and seminars, is written and in case of necessity also oral.

Controlled participation in lessons:

Attendance in the seminars and laboratories is compulsory, and controlled by teacher. The form of compensation the attendance for serious reasons of absence is solved individually with the course supervisor, mostly by elaboration of substitute tasks.

Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 2 hrs. optionally
    Laboratory exercise  4 × 2 hrs. compulsory
    Exercise  9 × 2 hrs. compulsory
