Academic year 2023/2024 |
Supervisor: | prof. RNDr. Radim Chmelík, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: | ÚFI
Teaching language: | Czech or English
Aims of the course unit:
Understanding of principles of 3D light microscopy and microscopic imaging. Acquiring of methods for fundamental 3D imaging characteristics calculation. |
||||
Learning outcomes and competences:
Knowledge of fundamentals of theoretical description of microscope imaging of 3D objects of their relation to experiment and competence to apply them in practice.
Prerequisites: | ||||
Wave and Fourier optics, geometrical optics, fundamentals of light microscopy.
Course contents: | ||||
The course explains principles of light microscopy of three-dimensional objects in terms of wave optics. Image properties are described using the formalism of 3D pupil and transfer functions. Properties of advanced microscopic techniques for 3D imaging are explained, especially those of confocal microscopy and coherence-controlled holographic microscopy.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. The lecture is completed by advanced optical demonstrations and experiments with light microscopes.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Examination is oral. Detailed knowledge of explained matter is proved. Examined student can use a literature.
Controlled participation in lessons:
Presence at lectures is not obligatory, but recommended.
Type of course unit: | ||||
