Selected Topics in Strength of Materials (FSI-0PP)

Academic year 2020/2021
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Vladimír Fuis, Ph.D.
Supervising institute: ÚMTMB all courses guaranted by this institute
Teaching language: Czech
Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to repeat and complete the knowledge of Stength Analysis I (4PP).
Learning outcomes and competences:
The course allows you to develop the knowledge of the course Stength Analysis I (4PP).
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of statics and mathematics.
Statics - conditions of static equilibrium and equivalence, the release of the body, the assessment of static certainty, resulting internal effects.
Mathematics - vectors and matrices, differentials and integrals, solutions to differential equations.
Course contents:
The course is to complete and expand the knowledge of the course Stength Analysis I (4PP). The course is the suplement to the lecture, seminars and home work.
It contains: Calculation of teh resulting internal effects in a rod. Calculation of quadratic moments of the cross section. Rod under simple stress - tension / compression, torsion, and bending. Rods under combined stresses. Supporting stability of rods.
Teaching methods and criteria:
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and characteristic tasks of Stength Analysis I (4PP).
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
The course is completed by a course-unit credit.
Controlled participation in lessons:
The basic education unit is a lecture. Attendance at lectures is optional but highly recommended.
Type of course unit:
    Lecture  13 × 2 hrs. optionally
Course curriculum:
Lecture This course runs simultaneously with the seminars of Strength Analysis I (4PP) and more or less follows its schedule. The content of lessons may be modified according to students’ requirements and needs.
Literature - fundamental:
3. Gere, J.M., Timoshenko, S.P.: Mechanics of Materials, third SI edition, Chapman & Hall, London, Glasgow, New York, 1995
4. Pestel, E., Wittenburg, J.: Technische Mechanik, Band 2: Festigkeitslehre, B I, Wissenschaftsverlag, Mannheim, Leipzig, Wien, Zűrich, 1992
