Possibilities of Using the Duplex System Plasma Nitriding plus CrN Coating for Special Components, MDPI
journal article in Web of Science

The article deals with the replacement of hard chrome plating by applying the duplex system plasma nitriding + CrN coating (hereinafter referred to as PN + CrN). The goal of the research was to find a suitable alternative for steel surface treatment that would replace hard chrome plating and ensure similar mechanical and tribological properties. An exposed part of a small-bore weapon was selected for evaluation, namely the gas piston of the 42CrMo4 steel breech mechanism drive. The PN + CrN duplex system was compared with a hard chrome coating as well as a self-deposited CrN coating. The mentioned surface treatments were evaluated in terms of metallography, mechanical and tribological properties and surface texture. From the mechanical properties, the hardness of the surface was analyzed, an indentation test was performed (Mercedes test) and adhesive-cohesive behavior was evaluated (Scratch test). Furthermore, an instrumented penetration test was performed (an evaluation of plastic and elastic deformation work and indentation hardness). As part of the assessment of tribological properties, the Ball-on-Flat test, the measurement of the coefficient of friction and the measurement of traces of wear were performed. The surface texture was evaluated in terms of morphology and surface roughness measurement by selected 2D and 3D parameters. The PN + CrN duplex system showed higher hardness than hard chrome, better tribological properties (lower friction coefficient), but worse surface texture. The PN + CrN duplex system has proven to be a suitable alternative to the hard chrome coating for exposed parts of small-caliber weapons, which can be applied in arms production.

Application of Carbon–Flax Hybrid Composite in High Performance Electric Personal Watercraft, MDPI
journal article in Web of Science

Within the herein presented research, we studied the applicability of flax fabrics for composite parts in personal watercrafts in order to enhance damping of vibrations from the engine and noise reduction (which is relatively high for contemporary carbon constructions). Since the composite parts are intended to be exposed to humid environments requiring high levels of mechanical properties, a carbon–flax composite was selected. Samples of carbon, fiberglass, flax, and hybrid carbon–flax twill and biax fabrics were subjected to tensile and three-point bending tests. The mechanical properties were also tested after exposure of the samples to a humid environment. Damping was assessed by vibration and noise measurements directly on the complete float for samples as well as real parts. The hybrid carbon–flax material exhibited lower values of tensile strength than the carbon material (760 MPa compared to 463 MPa), but, at the same time, significantly higher than the other tested materials, or flax itself (115 MPa for a twill fabric). A similar trend in the results was observed for the three-point bending tests. Vibration tests and noise measurements showed reductions in vibration amplitude and frequency when using the carbon–flax hybrid material; the frequency response function for the watercraft part assembled from the hybrid material was 50% lower than for that made of carbon. Testing of samples located in a humid environment showed the necessity of surface treatment to prevent moisture absorption (mechanical properties were reduced at minimum by 28%). The tests confirmed that the hybrid material is satisfactory in terms of strength and its contribution to noise and vibration damping.

Due to human activity, production and consumption, in addition to usable products, waste is also generated, which in developed countries is largely incinerated instead of landfilled. Not only ordinary municipal waste can be incinerated, but also industrial and medical waste or sewage sludge. Common municipal waste is incinerated at low temperature at temperatures of 800 to 900 ° C. The operating surface temperature of pipe systems is around 450 ° C and heat-resistant steels without a weld layer resist this temperature well, but their service life is very different due to corrosion reasons. Extending the service life of pipe systems is solved by welding with nickel alloy INCONEL 625 which will extend the operation of the boiler to 3 to 4 years.

Průběh vysokoteplotní koroze zkušebních vzorků a bimetalových trubkových oblouků
    report

As part of the project to develop supercritical bending of tubes for combustion boilers, experiments were carried out on the corrosion of weld-formed tubes, both in the selected critical bend and on samples of the base material and the Inconel 625 material.

Analysis of bimetal pipe bends with a bend of 0.7D with a cladding layer of Inconel 625, SPRINGER LONDON LTD
journal article in Web of Science

Bimetal pipes are highly stressed composite components that must resist corrosion in a chemically aggressive environment. They are made by welding resistive material to commonly available carbon steel pipes. The production of pipe bends with a supercritical bend of 0.7D, which are part of serpentine systems, is very complex and technologically demanding because very often undesired cracks occur. To increase the service life of these serpentine systems, the use of a 16Mo3 base steel pipe with a cladding layer of Inconel 625 material was proposed for their production in order to significantly increase their corrosion resistance. For this reason, an extensive analysis of the production of pipe bends with a supercritical bend of 0.7D from bimetal pipes with Inconel 625 cladding was performed, which addressed not only the bend but also the mechanical properties of the pipe with Inconel 625 cladding. It was found that the production of the bent pipes with a bend of 0.7D is feasible completely without defects with perfectly satisfactory mechanical properties, under appropriate technological conditions.
