    Piston rings play an important role in the lubricant system of reciprocating engines with consequences for engine wear, power losses and oil consumption. The computational solution of piston ring dynamics is a very complex problem which requires multiple numerical approaches supplemented by suitable inputs. This paper demonstrates the principles of the numerical solution of piston ring dynamics in mixed-lubrication conditions incorporating a virtual engine and experimental inputs. A simulation algorithm is integrated into the user-guided interface and it is available for industry usage. The solution results are presented for a passenger car petrol engine with a three-piston-ring configuration.

    This article presents computational approaches to verification of low-friction-losses cranktrain design and its vibration analysis. Reduction of friction losses consists in crankshaft main bearing reduction and there is investigated the influence upon crankshaft pulley torsional vibration and main bearing load. The computational model is assembled as well as numerically solved in Multi-Body System and the modally reduced bodies are also incorporated into it.

    The paper presents a use of virtual prototyping in designing, different variants comparing, and selecting of the most suitable design of crankshafts for two-stroke compressed-ignition engine with contra-running pistons and through-flow scavenging. Applying CAE methods enable a solution of different problems like torsional vibrations or loads of main bearings.

    The paper is focused on designing, different variants comparing, and selecting of the most suitable design of crankshafts for two-stroke CI engine with contra-running pistons and through-flow scavenging. The crankshafts variants are based on the analysis performed with the powertrain balance and include various combinations of requirements on strength, weight as well as balance. Applying FEM and MBS procedures, all variants go through dynamic simulations for the whole spectrum of operation speed, and the suitable design is selected with reference to the criterion of minimizing torsional vibrations, fatigue life of individual engine parts, and the load of main bearings.

    The paper focuses on the description of a 3D slide bearing model worked out as a virtual engine module. A complex computational model of a powertrain is assembled in multi-body systems. The slide bearing model makes a submodule of the virtual engine. The paper presents theoretical assumptions supplied with a numerical solution. The finite difference method with non-uniform integration step is introduced for the numerical solution. The results achieved using the slide bearing computational model help to develop modern diesel engines in the area of noise, vibrations and fatigue of the main parts.
