The paper describes the procedure of the vehicle yaw moment of inertia determination. The effect of the oscillation period measurement error onto total measurement error is analysed. The measurement stand for moment of inertia measurement based on physical pendulum principle is designed. The measurement system for the stand oscillation measurement is built. The computational procedure for the accurate oscillation period determination is built in the Labview software. The functionality of the complete measuring procedure is verified by determination of the measurement accuracy and precision.

In this project we focused our attention on more complex mathematical description of vehicle dynamics which makes the conventional Kalman filter unusable. New filters capable to estimate states of even nonlinear systems are therefore presented. After their mathematical derivation a software implementation in Matlab/Simulink is shown, finally followed by a graphic comparison of obtained results. Confrontations with results from linear Kalman filter are also provided to show an improvement of the new filters.

The paper presents experimental, in particular computational approaches employed during design modifications of Formula Ford aimed at the increase of downforces. The process starts with scanned three-dimensional geometry obtained by the application of ATOS I optical scanner. A formula surface model is created on the basis of scanned primary data. Additional accessory aerodynamic elements (e.g. rear wing) are created using CAD tools. The surface model of Formula Ford for the given configuration has been used for the development of computational grids utilizing CFD methods for the solution of external aerodynamics. External aerodynamic computational results of original and modified Formula Ford are compared at the end of the paper.

The paper presents possible benefits of using derivative-free filter to estimate vehicle dynamics states based on measured signals where the complexity of nonlinear dynamics limits the use of Extended Kalman Filter commonly used for nonlinear filtering. The filtration process was applied to real data obtained from testing manoeuvre. Bicycle model of a vehicle was used for state description and lateral dynamics investigation. Filter implementation in Matlab-Simulink software environment was used for analysis and comparison with earlier results.

The present project concentrates on the tools of modelling of car riding characteristics. The first goal is to improve currently used submodels, whose mathematical descriptions are insufficient or whose models require parameters that can be obtained (measured) only with difficulties or ambiguities. The second goal is to supplement the currently used mathematical modelling instruments (multi-body software) with tools that will make particular stages of development and verification of mathematical models more efficient. These tools should also enable using mathematical models during those product development stages where they have not been used to date. In this year, we created multi-body models of experimental car suspension system. At same time, we gave precision to models of car dampers and tyres. These models will be used to achieve the abovementioned research goals.
