Institute of Machine Design (IMD) is a part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology.

The mission of the IMD is to provide a high quality education, research and service to the industry on the field of modern machine design including integration of computer and information technology into products and processes.

Teaching Profile

Study gauranteed by the institute

As for education, the institute is responsible for one undergraduate and two graduate programmes. Undergraduate programme concentrates on industrial design. Graduate programmes deal with industrial design and computer aided machine design. The education in both undergraduate and graduate programmes benefits from a strong interaction with research. This guarantees a high quality of education and an up-to-date curriculum. The institute also organizes and contributes to many courses and seminars within the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science educational programmes.

Scientific Profile

Projects solved by the institute

IMD carries out research in the areas of machine design, tribology and material testing. More specifically, the research themes include elastohydrodynamic lubrication, contact mechanics, fatigue failure, vibro-acoustic diagnostics and acoustic emission. Research is characterized of substantial industrial cooperation and several international collaborations.
