The detection methods of dissolved gases in insulation oil of power oil transformers and mechanism of gas formation are described in this paper. The standard ČSN EN 60599 and the method for failure prediction which is based on time series analysis are discussed too. In the final part, this prediction is extended by fuzzy approaches.

Basic concept of reliability and maintenance of technical equipments is introduced in this article. Two methods for reliability assessment of power oil transformers are described in this article too. The first method is based on usual stochastic model of reliability with constant failure rate or with power failure rate. The second method assumes that power oil transformer is non-repairable system. In this article is shown that model with power failure rate has better accuracy than model with constant failure rate.

This article is focused on reliability analysis based on times to failure together with diagnostic measurements of power oil transformers. Method for assessment of residual lifetime by means of power factor and estimation of reliability characteristics by means of Cox Model are discribed in this article too. Both methods were applied to diagnostic measurements of several power oil transformers located in the Czech Republic.

The diagnostics of transformer condition is more and more important during recent years. One of the most important diagnostic method is the analysis of the dissolved gases in oil (DGA) especially methods defined in standards IEC 60599 and IEEE Std C57.104-1991. This paper describes three DGA (C.E.G.B method, IEC method and Rogers method) methods, and consequently their extension using the fuzzy logic for the purpose of an increase of reliability and accuracy of results. Fuzzified methods, which were applied on test data, reached accuracy in range of 70 - 78%.
