Cylindrical specimens of Inconel 713LC in as-received condition and with surface treatment by Al diffusion coating were cyclically strained under strain control at 800 deg in air. Surface treated layer characterization is obtained and the hardness depth profile was measured. Cyclic stress-strain response and fatigue life of both materials are acquired. The stress response of the coated superalloy is lower in comparison with the untreated one. Beneficial effect of surface treatment on the Manson-Coffin curve is documented. Specimen section and fracture surface study revealed fatigue damage mechanisms both in coated and uncoated specimens. Main crack propagation path is predominantly interdendritic.

High temperature low cycle fatigue behaviour of cast nickel-based superalloy Inconel 738LC in as-received condition and coated with an Al-Si diffusion layer was studied. The Al-Si protective layer was deposited on the gauge section of cylindrical specimens using the slurry technique. Fatigue tests were performed on cylindrical specimens under total strain control in symmetrical cycle at 800 deg in air. The coating has a beneficial effect on fatigue life in the low amplitude domain. The stress response of the coated material is higher for high amplitudes in comparison with the uncoated one. Fracture surfaces and sections parallel to the specimen axis have been examined to study fatigue damage mechanisms.

High temperature low cycle fatigue behavior of the cast nickel-based superalloy Inconel 713LC in as-received condition and coated with an Al-Cr diffusion layer have been investigated. The diffusion coating was deposited using the CVD out of pack technique. It was characterized and the hardness depth profile was measured. Fatigue tests were performed at 800 C in air using cylindrical specimens. Cyclic hardening/softening curves, cyclic stress-strain curve and fatigue life curves were obtained. The detrimental effect of the surface treatment on the Manson-Coffin and the derived Wöhler curves is documented. Fracture surface and surface relief observations and examinations of specimen sections help to discuss the effect of the diffusion coating on the fatigue life.

Cylindrical specimens of Inconel 713LC in untreated condition and surface treated with Al and Al-Si diffusion coating were cyclically strained under strain control at 800 deg in air. The structural and hardness characteristics of the hardened surface layer are presented. Cyclic hardening/softening curves, cyclic stress-strain curves, and fatigue life curves are obtained. The sections parallel to the specimen axis have been examined to study fatigue damage mechanisms. The effect of Al coating on stress response and fatigue life slightly differs from that of Al-Si coating.

Cylindrical specimens of Inconel 713LC in as-cast condition and with Al diffusion coating by the CVD technique were cyclically strained under total strain control at 800 degC. Hardening/softening curves, cyclic stress-strain curves, and fatigue life curves are obtained. The coating has a beneficial effect on the Manson-Coffin curve while the fatigue life is reduced in the Basquin representation. The stress response of the coated material is lower in comparison with the uncoated one. Sections parallel to the specimen axis have been examined to study fatigue damage mechanisms.
