    The quantitative evaluation of the failure probability of a safety related function is defined by the probability of failure, the failuremode of the components, the mean time to restoration, the interval of the proof test, as well as the coefficient of the faults having a common mode failure (for multi-channel systems) of a protection system. All mentioned parameters have a physical interpretation which does not allow the change of the influencing parameters to an arbitrary degree. It is therefore helpful to carry out simulations beforehand in order to optimize the development costs. The efficiency and with it the extent ratio of effect of a parameter change can be examined beforehand. The following paper will show a number of simulations and their results.
