Basic Characteristics of Bachelor's Degree Study at FME BUT
General study branch (abbreviated as G) Mechanical Engineering:
- This branch is designed for the applicants who wish to immediately continue their studies in order to obtain a Master's degree.
- After graduation from the general branch of the Bachelor's degree programme, every graduate (at his/her own request) will be admitted free of entry examination to the Master's degree programme at FME.
- Graduates from the general branch of the Bachelor's degree programme at FME may opt for approximately 18 branches within the two-year Master's degree programme.
- For those graduates who intend to obtain a Master's degree , it is therefore advisable to study the general branch of the Bachelor's degree programme (far more options when selecting the engineering branch).
Study branch Quality, Reliability and Safety:
- This branch is studied separetely beginning from the first study year.
- Graduates may continue in the follow-up master study in the same field.
Branches of Applied Sciences in Engineering (abbreviated as A):
- “” is an inter-disciplinary programme providing the students with basic education in mathematics as well as in engineering fields. In mathematics, considerable stress is placed on applications. The branch is intended especially for those secondary school graduates who hesitate between studying mathematics and engineering subjects.
- “” is an inter-disciplinary programme on an inter-faculty basis that is being taught in cooperation with the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University in Brno. The branch is intended especially for those secondary school graduates who hesitate between studying physics and engineering subjects.
- “” is an inter-disciplinary programme on an inter-faculty basis that is being taught in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication.
- “” combines technical disciplines and natural sciences and lies on the dividing line between science (physical chemistry), technical sciences and manufacturing technology.
- “Industrial Design” is an inter-disciplinary study focusing on art. To be admitted to study of this specialised branch, candidates have to pass a talent exam at the end of the 1st year of study of the general branch.
Professional study branches (abbreviated as P):
- These branches are practice-oriented and appropriate for the students who wish to immediately start their professional careers.
- However, the graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme who decide to continue their studies in order to obtain a Master's degree can apply for a Master's degree branch linked to that of the Bachelor's study.
