Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Laboratory

List of persons

Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Laboratory is dealing with research and development applied in mechanical engineering and metallurgy. The theoretical work of the laboratory is focused on transfer phenomena at the interaction of flowing fluid with hot surface and the inverse tasks of heat transfer.

Teaching Profile

Study gauranteed by the institute

The students of both, regular and doctoral, study at the university are involved in laboratory research when processing their diploma and postdoctoral theses.

Scientific Profile

Projects solved by the institute

The projects, oriented towards industry application, are focused mainly on experimental research; the obtained results are subsequently used in mathematical models, describing studied processes. Laboratory long-dated experience is concentrated on the determination of heat transfer boundary conditions when cooling the hot surface with application in continuous casting, hot rolling and hydraulic descaling. A great number of long term projects with important industrial partners has been established (e.g. Lechler GmbH Germany, U.S. Steel Kosice, Posco Korea, Alcoa Inc., USA, ISPAT Nova hut Ostrava, Vitkovice Ostrava).

Professional Collaboration

The laboratory is participating in the solution of national and international research projects (e.g. Grant Agency and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, COST, COPERNICUS) and cooperating with many foreign universities and research institutes (e.g. Intelligent Material Processing Testbed Bowling and Two-Phase Flow Laboratory, Purdue University, Department of Energy Science and Technology, Kyoto University, Manufacturing Institute, Arizona State University, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alabama, Nova Gorica Polytechnic, Slovenia, IRSID France, MEFOS Sweden).
