Aims of the course unit:
The aim of the course is to prepare students for real-life communication in English language. They learn to describe problems, give instructions, ask questions, i.e. the skills that arise in a wide range of technical occupations. On completion of the course, students are expected to have gained the knowledge of English at the A1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Students will learn general vocabulary and elementary grammar for simple communication.
Prerequisites:
Course is intended for false beginners, for first-year students primarily.

Course contents:
The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level but it also introduces students to English for specific purposes (ESP).

Teaching methods and criteria:
Language instruction as an extension of basic professional curriculum.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes:
Course-unit credit is conditioned by active attendance and participation in the seminars and by meeting specific requirements of the teacher.

Controlled participation in lessons:
Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars.

    Language exercise revision of the basics of English pronunciation
verb “to be” and modal verb “can” – positive, negative, question
subject pronouns “I,you, he…”, object pronouns “me, you, him…”
possessive adjectives “my, your, his…”
question words “who, what, where, how, whose…”
introduction to articles “a/an, the”
plural nouns
demonstratives “this, these…”
imperative
possessive “’s”
prepositions of place and time
present simple – 3rd person singular, positive, negative, question
adverbs of frequency “often, always, never…”
present continuous – positive, negative, question
